This lens returned a good set of figures and is only really let down by CA at the longer end of the zoom range, although easily removed in post processing.
The wide open sharpness can be improved significantly by post processing sharpening, similarly contrast levels need to be raised a little. I’d probably use it stopped down by 1 stop e.g. f5.6 short end, f8 longer end, which means its more suited to brighter conditions.
OK, its not quite a EF 100-400, but the optical stabiliser is almost silent and nowhere near as clunky.
The AF is quite slow on a 20D, but I believe that this lens draws quite a bit of current from the battery and is best used in conjunction with battery grip. The colleague who leant me this lens suffered from significant lockups on his 20D withour one. Although I tried it on a 1DN and the AF seemed much better!
